The conviction of Maria Ressa have shown where are her supporters and it
is not solely in the Philippines.
Earlier the international watchdog Human Rights Watch (HRW) calls it a “devastating
blow” to the country’s press freedom.
"The verdict against Maria Ressa highlights the ability of the
Philippines’ abusive leader to manipulate the laws to go after critical,
well-respected media voices whatever the ultimate cost to the country," according to Human Rights Watch (HRW) through its deputy Asia director
Phil Robertson.

And now it’s the turn of UN Special Rapporteur on Extra- Judicial
summary or arbitrary Executions Agnes Callamard to
show her support to Ressa and slam the Philippine government for what she calls
the conviction as a “travesty of justice” in the Philippines.
“A travesty of justice; a tragedy for the Philippines; but not the end
of the fight and solidarity with and for @mariaressa and #pressfreedom,” Callamard
tweeted.
She commended Ressa for showing courage in fighting for press freedom
despite the confidence.
“Dearest friend, I am appalled, angry, and so much in awe with your
courage,” the UN official said.
Callamard has been known to be a fierce critic of President Rodrigo Roa
Duterte, the former accuses the Duterte administration of the extra-judicial
killing in the country’s brutal and relentless war on drugs.
