Yung totoo, ngayon ko lang narinig ‘yan! Eric Yap denies Iglesia Ni Cristo lobby to deny ABS-CBN’s franchise bid

The reported published by Politiko.cpm.ph online regarding the religious group Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) lobbying against the renewal of the Lopez controlled ABS-CBN Corporation has made ACT-CIS party-list Rep. Eric Yap to make a statement regarding the matter.

Yap has denied that the influential religious group is making a move in blocking the grant of another legislative franchise for ABS-CBN.

In an interview with the ANC’s show Headstart the neophyte lawmaker was unaware of such INC lobbying.

“’Yung totoo, ngayon ko lang narinig ‘yan. And then I don’t think yung Iglesia Ni Cristo is very active sa ganoon dahil wala akong narinig sa Congress diyan,” he said.

He also said in record that he has no ties with the influential religious group so he is not privy to any such moves if there is any by INC.

“Unang una, hindi ako member ng Iglesia Ni Cristo and hindi rin po nila dinala ‘yung… I mean hindi nila in-endorse yung aking party-list noong eleksyon so wala akong naririnig na ganoon,” he said.

Politiko reported that INC auditor-general Glicerio Santos Jr. sent his son to directly lobby with House leaders led by Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano to ensure ABS-CBN’s franchise wouldn’t be renewed.

The religious group reportedly tasked former Justice Undersecretary Felix Exconde Jr. to talk to House leaders about ABS-CBN’s application of legislative franchise.

According to Politiko, their sources said INC wants to take over the Lopez controlled ABS-CBN Corporation’s frequencies, which will include Channels 2 and 23 on free television, as well as those for its AM and FM radio stations.
