Vice President Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo slams
House Speaker Peter Alan Cayetano, for the delay of the ABS-CBN’s franchise
renewal application, which eventually led to the Lopez-owned being shutdown.
In the Vice President’s
weekly radio show “Serbisyong Leni” said that the House of Representatives had
all the time to tackle ABS-CBN’s application before its legislative franchise
expired on May 4.
“Noong
hindi pa sina-shut down mayroong mga ano ito, may mga threats na hindi na kayo
makakarenew, tapos ngayon nagtuturuan kung sino iyong behind it. Pero noong
panahon na may oras pa, iyong tanong nga: bakit hindi inasikaso?” she asked.

The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC)
ordered ABS-CBN to go off the air as per the cease and desist order
that was issued. The cease and desist order was predicated upon the expiration of
its legislative franchise last May 4.
The Vice President also chided the House of
Representatives reasoning of lack of time in discussing the ABS-CBN’s franchise
renewal since it has been pending in the House since 2014 within President Pnoy
Aquino’s term as president.
“Dalawang taon sa past administration, apat na taon
sa administrasyon na ito. So bakit sasabihin na walang panahon para pag-usapan,
o kulang ng panahon? Kasi kung gugustuhin, puwede naman, eh,” she said.
