Tycoon Lucio Tan donates P15M COVID-19 testing lab




Last week it was reported that the national flag carrier Philippine Air Lines (PAL) have suffered billions of losses brought about by the coronavirus pandemic, Lucio Tan its owner had to dig deep in his pockets in order to stay it afloat.

As the country continues to record a steady increase of coronavirus infected numbers, Lucio Tan is making his presence felt as it was announced that he is donating a bio-molecular laboratory with a capacity of 4,000 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests per day.


The Philippine Daily Inquirer reported the said donation, the COVID-19 testing lab will be located inside the former blood center of the Philippine Red Cross in Batangas City.

The said act of Lucio Tan is in line with the government efforts to increase coronavirus testing int he country.

The facility would help the national government – Department of Health (DOH) to quickly identify and isolate coronavirus patients,the facility will be completed within a month, according to LT Group president and COO Michael Tan.



Tan adds apart from the COVID-19, the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) of the said bio lab can also detect other infectious and non-infectious diseases like hepatitis, cancer, tuberculosis, malaria, HIV dengue and Zika.
