The Vice President even
admits that the non-renewal of the Lopez controlled ABS-CBN Corporation can be
rooted from the time when the former President Benigno Simeon “Noynoy” Aquino
III and House Speaker Sonny Belmonte failed to extend or renew the said
franchise under their watch.
“Hindi inaksyunan, eh. Tingin ko hindi—hindi
dahilan iyong… hindi dahilan iyong walang oras kasi 2014 panagsimula, long
before matapos iyong—mag-expire iyong lisensiya,” said Robredo in an interview
with RMN’s Ely Saludar.
“Ilan na? Anim na taon na. Dalawang taon sa past
administration, apat na taon sa administrasyon na ito. So bakit sasabihin na
walang panahon para pag-usapan, o kulang ng panahon? Kasi kung gugustuhin,
puwede naman, eh,” she added.

It is publicly known
that ABS-CBN opted for a “early application” in 2014, it was then Isabela Rep.
Giorgidi Aggabao filed House Bill 4997 under the 16th Congress but this failed
to hurdle the committee led by then Marikina Rep. Marcy Teodoro.
ABS-CBN decided to
withdrew its renewal application before the end of the 16th Congress mainly
because of “time constraints”, Vice President Robredo was also part of the 16th
Congress as a representative of the legislative district of Camarines Sur.
According to former
ambassador and veteran journalist Rigoberto “Bobby” Tiglao the former chief
executive resented the criticisms thrown at him by ABS-CBN’s top news anchors Noli
De Castro and Ted Failon, so much so that Aquino and
Lopez never talked to each other after the President gave tongue lashing to De
Casto and the rest of the news and current affairs department during the 25th
celebration of the media giant.
During the 17th
and 18th Congress the bill asking for the franchise renewal was
snubbed, plus the fact the it is of open information to everybody the current
Chief Executive is not in good terms with the Lopez controlled media outfit, when
Speakership was headed by Alan Peter Cayetano the snubbing became more evident.
Robredo is of the
opinion that ABS-CBN should have been atleast given the opportunity to make for
its renewal before the expiration of its legislative franchise.
