GMA
Network is the undisputed number one tv network in the country….since May 6
that is, and it is relishing every bit of it since the Lopez controlled network
was forced to shut down because of the expiration of its franchise.
For
one, the Kapuso network’s flagship news program on primetime block, “24 Oras” ,
boasted of reaching 46 million viewers nationwide in a report.
It cited the data provided by Nielsen
Philippines’ Television Audience Measurement (TAM), “24 Oras” claimed to have
reached 53 percent of television vewers in the country from May 6 to 8, two
days after ABS-CBN went off the air.

“TV Patrol,” ABS-CBN’s
flagship news program, resumed broadcasting on May 7 but its reach was limited
to Facebook and Youtube, ANC on cable, the streaming service iWant, and the
Teleradyo channel for those who have ABS-CBN’s so called “black box.”

Mixed
reactions were solicited from the netizens when this news broke out since they
believe GMA is exploiting ABS-CBN’s absence. Please see their reactions below:
Netizen @FredaMaranon
tweeted: “Syempre wala namang choice ang wala cable.”
Twitter user @minabisu said: “Lmao what a
tasteless act of bragging about it. Parang proud kayo kasi wala kayong kalaban.
How low and distasteful of GMA.”
Some were unimpressed by GMA’s
“24 Oras’” rating considering that the long time running “TV Patrol” was off
the air for days.
Twitter user @alracajaj
said: “That is LOW. Pumapalo nga minsan ng 45%+ ang ratings ng FPJAP minsan eh.
One show lang yun ah.”
Netizen @MJumelopena
Netizen @teamLODI
tweeted: “Isn’t that still low given na sila lang ang channel? Wala na silang
kalaban. They could have got atleast 70% of viewership pero yung iba mas pinili
yatang patayin ang TV.
