LP slams Duterte admin's slow response against COVID-19

The Liberal Party (LP) is in the public again and has slammed the Duterte administration with its slow response as against the novel coronavirus disease or COVID-19.

The misplace priorities of the current administration can be seen in the National Telecommunications Commission’s (NTC) cease and desist order of the Lopez-owned ABS-CBN.

The Liberal Party (LP) condemned the National Telecommunications Commission’s cease and desist order of the ABS-CBN’s broadcast operations, which have been also giving an ample help to the government in its desire to control the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.

The opposition that is now the Liberal Party said the fate that happened to ABS-CBN is a hindrance to the country’s efforts to respond to the COVID-19 crisis, put thousands of workers and their families at risk, and hindered the public’s access to reliable information.

“By ordering ABS-CBN to shut down its operations, the administration has hampered our collective capability to respond to the current public health crisis, upended the lives of thousands of workers and their families, and put at risk those of many others who rely on accurate, timely, and reliable information to navigate the age of COVID-19,” said the party in a statement released to media.

LP specifically took note that the Duterte administration’s inefficiency and slow policies in the  fight against the COVID-19 where as of the present only less than one percent of the population was tested and non-availability of the much needed support and equipment for the frontliners is still not properly addressed.

“That this government would shut ABS-CBN down in the midst of a pandemic – where media is both a lifeline and a source of comfort – calls into question their motivations, their priorities, and their commitment to our people’s well-being,” said LP.
