Opposition senator
Rissa Hontiveros slams Solicitor General Jose Calida and reminds the counsel of
the Philippine government to rethink his priorities amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The opposition senator did not let it
pass in slamming the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) after it warned the National
Telecommunications Commission (NTC) against giving ABS-CBN network a
provisional permit while Congress would still deliberate its franchise.
“The OSG has misplaced priorities, and
should just focus its energies on supporting government efforts amid the
pandemic,” Hontiveros tweeted.

OSG said the NTC might be facing graft
complaints if they issue a provisional authority to ABS-CBN. He said such
provisional permit can only be issued once its congressional franchise is
granted.
Hontiveros is backing up the
Lopez-owned network amid the attempts of the OSG to block its franchise
renewal, the license of the network has expired on May 4.
Hontiveros is of an opinion that NTC
can allow ABS-CBN to continue operating while its franchise is still pending in
Congress.
“I stand with my colleagues in the
Senate and the House of Representatives that nothing should prevent the
National Telecommunications Commission from issuing a provisional authority to
ABS-CBN and its subsidiaries while the renewal of its franchise is pending in Congress,”
she said.
