‘Hindi tayo 2nd class citizens sa sariling bansa!’ Hontiveros re VIP treatment of Chinese over OFWs in COVID-19 testing

Opposition senator Risa Hontiveros cannot hide her infuriation with the reports that Chinese workers have supposedly obtained the results of their COVID-19 test faster that the modern heroes of the country- the overseas foreign workers (OFWs) stuck in quarantine areas.

The lady senator said Filipinos in any instance should never be “second class citizens” in the country, as she denounced the alleged “VIP treatment” given to some Chinese nationals

“4 days lang nakuha agad ng mga Chinese workers sa Fontana ang COVID-19 results nila; habang marami sa mga OFWs natin ay mahigit isang buwan naka-quarantine dahil wala pa ang sa kanila,” she said in her Facebook post.

“Hindi tama ito. Hindi tayo 2nd-class citizens sa sarili nating bansa,” she said.
She is urging the concerned government agencies to remedy the bottlenecks in the handling and management of testing and quarantine  procedures for the OFWs so they can go home to their families.

Hontiveros said no VIP treatment should be rolled out to the detriment of what the country considers the modern heroes of the Philippines.

“I call on OWWA, PCG, & DOH: ayusin natin ang bottlenecks nang mapabilis ang pagpapauwi ng mga OFWs. Siguraduhin nating walang nakakalusot na VIP treatment,” she said.
“This is not how we welcome OFWs back home. Let’s address these backlogs so that we can send them back to their loved ones,” she said.
