President Rodrigo Roa Duterte in his public address defended Metro Manila police chief Maj. Gen. Debold Sinas against the calls of him resigning.

In the said televised public address, he described the police officer as an “honest” and “good” officer, and that it was not his fault that he was serenated by his men in celebration of his birthday.

“Itong kaso ni Sinas, General Sinas ng, sa National Capital Region commander, ako yung ayaw na malipat siya. He’s a good officer. He’s an honest one. Hindi niya kasalanan kung may mag harana sa kanya sa birthday niya,” according to him.

“At yung nakikita na walang mask, siyempre may merienda, may pagkain, alang-alang naman kainin nila pati yung mask. Tanggalin talaga nila, kainan yun eh. Hindi ako sang ayon. Pinag-aralan ko yung merits at saka demerits.

“Kailangan ko yung tao. Mas kailangan ko yung tao dito sa trabaho niya. They are all competent but you know seniority. It is his time to be there and I don’t believe in just firing him because kinantahan siya ng ‘Happy Birthday’… Sabi mo, the law is the law. Well, akin na yun. It’s my responsibility. But, I will not order his transfer. He stays there until further order,” said Duterte.
