Senate minority Floor Leader Franklin Drilon
is pushing for the resignation of the Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Francisco
Duque III.
This in in relation to the flak the government
has been receiving for what it seems to be a mismanagement of the country’s
COVID-19 response.
Drilon cannot hide his dismay with the DOH
secretary for saying the country is already seeing the second wave of COVID-19 infections during
the Senate hearing on the government’s response to the epidemic.

The pronouncement of
Duque was is stark contrast to those of other government officials, who is of
the opinion that the country is just starting to flatten the curve of the first
wave.
“Kung hindi magkakasundo sa basic data, it
affects their credibility. Talagang maraming problema at nakakalungkot.
Kailangan ang kooperasyon ng taumbayan sa social distancing pero kung ang
nakikita mo ay mali-mali ang data, hindi nagkakasundo kung ano ang standard,
talagang nawawalan ng tiwala ang taumbayan sa kakayahan ng pamahalaan na
ma-contain yung virus na ito,” Drilon said in a radio interview.
Asked if he will call for Duque’s resignation,
Drilon said: “Kung hindi man siyan mag-resign, magdasal na lang siya.”
It might be remembered that Drilon is one of
the fourtee senators who signed a resolution calling for the resignation of
Sec. Duque as head of the Department of Health, President Rodrigo Duterte
however said his trust remains in Duque.
