Diokno slams PNP for protecting Duterte against criticisms




Human rights lawyer and former otso deretso senatorial candidate Chel Diokno is not taking this latest issue in silence.

He took to media about his opinion regarding the arrest of a 41-year-old salesman in Barangay Triangulo, Nasipit town, Agusan del Norte last Wednesday for "posting libelous statement against President Duterte.”



Diokno said a valid warrantless arrest cannot be effected under the circumstance.

"Hindi trabaho ng PNP protektahan ang Pangulo sa opinyon ng taumbayan. Ang trabaho niyo e protektahan ang taumbayan," he said.

“Only judges are equipped with knowledge and impartiality to decide if a person should be jailed for libel” he adds.

A 41-year-old salesman in Barangay Triangulo, Nasipit town, Agusan del Norte last Wednesday was arrested by the operatives from the Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit (RACU) 13 and Nasipit Municipal Police Station for his act of "posting libelous statement against President Duterte.”


“Alam na pattern, mosalida si Go konuhay siya mohangyo sa buang nga Pangulo, Digong gag*. Buang si Digong (Rough translation: Alam na ang pattern lalabas si Go at kunwari mag-request sa buang na Pangulo, Digong gag*. Buang si Digong)” the salesman allegedly said in a Facebook post.

The man is currently under the custody of its anti-cybercrime unithis mobile phone was also confiscated by the policemen.



"Again I remind our social media users to think thrice before posting on any social media platform. Be responsible netizens. We do enjoy the blessings of democracy but never go beyond from what you think is right without minding you violate the provisions of the law," PNP Caraga director Brigadier General Joselito Esquivel Jr. said.
