President Rodrigo
Roa Duterte in his late Monday night public address apologized to the Ayalas
and Pangilinan for his “hurting words.”
Duterte said that
COVID-19 is a humbling experience that he is thankful for the two businessmen
for helping the government for providing the immediate necessities that is
needed.
And the President
said they can talk and he would be reasonable but it did not say the two will
be off the hook in any of the possible cases the government will find against
them.

Presidential
Spokesperson Atty. Harry Roque said the government will still pursue the cases
against Manila Water and Maynilad’s owners in connection with the onerous
concession agreements signed in 1997.
“Sabi naman po niya (Duterte)
puwedeng magusap sa mga issues between these companies and the government. I
think that’s an indication na kung pupuwedeng out of court settlement, he will
explore out of court settlement,” Roque also said.
“Pero yung mga issues na nilabas ng
ating presidente lalong-lalo na sa water concessions remain. Siguro po yung
pag-uusap eh dun sa kung paapano babaguhin ang concession agreement ng dalawang
kumpanya na nagbibigay ng tubig sa atin,” he added.
