Coco Martin's ranting is proof that Democracy is very much Alive!

Democracy specifically freedom of the press is very much alive, because if we are to say otherwise we can never explain what just happen to Coco Martin’s tirades against the Duterte administration.

During a Facebook Live last Friday, the lead actor of the primetime show “Ang Probinsyano” slammed and criticize the Duterte government for the shutting down of the ABS-CBN, which they claim has 11,000 employees after the franchise of the network expired last May 4.

“Alam ninyo po iyan naman po ay nagpapatunay na buhay ang demokrasya sa Pilipinas, mayroong malayang pananalita at wala pong sumusupil sa kalayaan ni Coco Martin na magsalita,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in an interview over state-run PTV-4.

Roque gave a reply to the tirade by Martin regarding the comparison of the ABS-CBN’s network franchise and the Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators operations.
“Pero parang hindi tama iyong comparison between ABS-CBN and ng mga POGO, dahil unlike iyong mga broadcast companies, wala pong probisyon sa Saligang Batas kung sino pupuwedeng magbigay ng authority para mag-operate ang POGO,” according to the Presidential Sppokesperson who is also a licensed lawyer by profession.
Atty Roque, explained that the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation has authority over POGOs while a franchise is a privilege granted by Congress to public utilities like broadcast entities.

“Ang POGO po, tanging PAGCOR lang ang puwedeng magbigay ng desisyon kung sila’y puwedeng mag-operate; samantalang ang broadcast company po ay tanging Kongreso lang po ang may ganiyang kapangyarihan.”
