Talo tayo kung nagkalat ang team captain: Lacson explains senators’ call for Sec. Duque resignation

Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson likened the situation of the Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Francisco Duque III to a basketball game wherein the latter is the team captain and he is playing badly in the game.

This is how senator Lacson explained the Senate resolution seeking Health Secretary Francisco Duque III’s resignation over his current handling of the novel coronavirus 2019 disease or COVID-19 crisis.

In an exclusive interview with DZBB and GMA News TV, Lacson reveals that the analogy he said originally came from Senate President Vicente Sotto III, indicates the country may lose the fight against the coronavirus if Duque remains as DOH Secretary.

“Nang nagdi-discussion kami sabi ko kay SP ang ganda ng analogy niya kasi matatalo tayo sa virus kung ang captain ball, ang nagdadala ng team, medyo wala sa condition, nagkakalat,” Lacson said.

Yesterday a resolution was signed by 14 senators calling for the resignation of DOH Secretary Francisco Duque III for his shortcomings, which included “failure of leadership, negligence, lack of foresight and inefficiency” that led to “poor planning, delayed response, lack of transparency and misguided and flip-flopping policies and measures in addressing” COVID-19.

The resolution was questioned why in the midst of the health crisis, the senators want Duque to go, Lacson said the DOH’s structure remains, only the secretary will go.

“Ang analogy nga ni Senate President, basketball game, nagwawala at nagkakalat ang team captain mo, hindi mo ilalabas? Matatalo tayo. Sabi ko ang ganda ng analogy,” Lacson said.
