The Senate President is schooling the young mayor of
Manila and reminded the latter that they are doing their own public service
without the spotlight of media reporting every inch of it.
This following Manila Mayor Isko’s emotional address where
he challenged the senators to make thrie presence more felt in stepping up as
regards to helping the people.
“Mga
kababayan, bilang Pangulo ng Senado, nais ko po, una sa lahat, pasalamatan ang
lahat ng ating mamamayan lalo na ang mga tagapangalaga ng kalusugan na
tumutulong ng taos puso at walang pagyayabang. Ang pagtulong sa kapwa na walang
hinihintay na kapalit o papuri ang tunay na dakila,” Sotto
said in a statement.

“Para naman dun sa ilang kababayan natin na nagyayabang at mahilig maghamon sa mga Senador at pulitiko na lumabas at tumulong sa kapwa, sana mahimasmasan kayo at magkaroon ng tamang katinuan,” Sotto seems to be answering the call of Moreno
“Wala kaming mga media na nakabuntot sa amin 24 oras para makaEPAL lang sa panahon ng COVID-19 (We don’t have the media following us 24 hours a day just so we can show off amid COVID-19),” Sotto stressed, compared to the Local Government Units.
“Batid namin na hindi ito ang panahon ng pasikatan o pagalingan. Lahat tayo dapat panalo sa laban na ito. Walang Pilipinong maiiwan (This is not the time to show off or compete. All of us should win this, no Filipino should be left behind),” Sotto adds.
Duty of the Senators
In the Senate President’s tweet posted today, he
reiterates his stance that the duty of senators is to “promptly pass the
enabling law so the [executive department] can use [government] funds to
respond during this health crisis.”
“We did so in 18 hrs,” he noted.
“It’s not our mandate to repack rice and sardines with a complete PR [public
relations] team around us. Some of us do, WITHOUT the PR team!”
In another separate statement the Senate President said
that senators, “have not been sitting idly in our homes” as they have been
going around to check and distribute goods to frontliners and families in need.
“We have always been around, but we
are unlike some who constantly seek public applause for their every action even
that which are actually just perfunctory,” the senate president said.
Sotto threw the challenge to those who would like to know what they are doing in this time of pandemic, they can ask and they will be provided with the detailed list of their actions.
“There
is no need to come up with those dramatic, teary-eyed, voice-breaking appeals
uploaded on social media platforms. That is not only cheap, but it reeks so
much of traditional politics,” he stressed.
