House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano came out saying that there
will be no closure of the television giant ABS-CBN this coming May 4.
However he is not sure when wil the House of Representatives
will start hearings on tackling the network’s franchise renewal mainly because
of the novel coronavirus 2019 disease or COVID-19 pandemic which has stopped
all government offices.
“Actually dapat on May 4 or 5 may hearing na but what we want
to, gusto naming paabot sa lahat ng viewers ng ABS-CBN, DZMM, sa lahat po ng
mga empleyado, sa mga stars, directors, wala pong move na isara ang ABS-CBN,”
he said in an interview over dzMM radio.

The House Speaker also said that before Congress went onto a
break because of the COVID-19 pandemic the House legislative franchises
committee might begin the hearing for the ABS-CBN’s renewal bid for a new
franchise on May 4 when session resumes.
Cayetano said he
will talk to senators Thursday (April 30) on how to proceed with ABS-CBN’s
franchise renewal bid.
The House has
ordered the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) to give ABS-CBN
provisional franchise so its operations can continue after May 4.
