Mindanao designer creates Nationalistic PPE's for Frontliners

There is an old saying that not all heroes wear capes, and at this time were we are facing the COVID-19 pandemic that is absolutely true.

What the quote did not say, is that heroes always have their own costume and for the country a Filipino designer decided to make use of his talent to help our brave and resilient frontliners.

Mindanaoan Guela Ampong decided to take matters in her own hands, with a lot of creativity which exudes an uplifting our frontliners morale.

This designer made waves online after sharing a Philippine Flag inspired personal protective equipment (PPE) for COVID-19 frontliners to honor the country's "modern-day heroes."

"It's a tribute for all the Filipinos who are fighting right now (against) COVID," Ampong told CNN Philippines' The Source.
"Sila 'yung mga frontliners. Since we are Filipinos, parang nandoon 'yung pagiging makabayan natin," Ampong added.

Ampong’s suits have already been approved for use by the health department. Unlike other equipment, the protective suits are washable and can be used again after disinfection.

The color scheme also symbolizes different traits Filipinos are known for, like resilience and purity, according to Ampong.

According to Dr. Jamillah Watamama, Ampong's partner in the project and a frontliner herself, apart from the eye-catching aesthetics, the design hopes to boost the morale of the workers battling the viral disease.

"If you see the suit with the Philippine flag, parang mabubuhayan ka eh (it will boost your spirits)," Watamama said.

"The Filipinos are resilient. Whatever it is na dumaan sa atin... bumabangon tayo (whatever problems we face, we manage to get back up). It is something that can uplift the spirit of the frontliners," she added.
