Good news for a change in the
country’s battle against the novel coronavirus 2019 disease or COVID-19.
Based on a research from the
University of the Philippines (UP) the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ)
imposed by government over the entire of Metro Manila seems to have been
"very effective" at checking the spread of the coronavirus disease
2019 (COVID-19).
Prof. Mahar Lagmay of the UP Resilience Institute (UPRI) said the
university's Institute of Mathematics submitted research showing that the number of new infections per day in the National
Capital Region appears to have already reached its peak.

"In NCR they are saying that it
seems that we are already at the peak. So that means that our efforts in the
ECQ have really been very very effective," Lagmay said in an interview
with ANC.
ECQ declarations in the different provinces and cities have also
reduced risk of spread of COVID-19, he said.
Prof. Lagmay however warned that once ECQ
measures are lifted, "the spread might spike up again."
To avoid this, UPRI said policymakers
need to base their decisions on whether to lift or continue the quarantine on
"science-based models."
