Fourteen senators have signified through a resolution their call for the resignation of Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Francisco Duque III. Signatories to such resolution said its “nothing personal” and its just that they wanted someone competent to lead the government’s response to the novelcoronavirus2019 disease (COVID-19) crisis.

“We expect our public health leader to show everyone he has the necessary qualities to lead the response effectively because our own people’s lives are at stake here. Every decision matters. We cannot afford to be indecisive at this point,” Senator Joel Villanueva, one of the signatories in the resolution, said in a statement.

“It (resolution) is what it is, nothing personal we just badly need a public health expert to lead,” the senator adds.

The Health Secretary issued a statement and posted it in the DOH Facebook account.

He said he will answer in due time all the allegations presented by the resolution, and as for now they are busy with the “invisible enemy which to this day remains unpredictable.”

“Let us work as a team, as one country fighting for the health and safety of all. I will continue to serve the country to the best of my abilities. Magtulungan po tayo.”

(from DOH Facebook account)

Health Secretary Francisco T. Duque III - We are at war with an invisible enemy which to this day remains unpredictable. As such, we adapt and innovate. Despite all the challenges and limited resources, DOH is making sure that we, as a nation, have a fighting chance against COVID-19. This is not a fight of one man or of one agency, it is a fight for all of us Filipinos.
We will answer these allegations in due time, but right now, we will continue to be in the trenches with our health care workers and frontliners. Let us work as a team, as one country fighting for the health and safety of all. I will continue to serve the country to the best of my abilities. Magtulungan po tayo.
