Vice President Maria Leonor “Leni”
Robredo and political ally human rights lawyer Chel Diokno formed an
organization -Volunteers and Lawyers for the Rule of Law (VALOR 19).
And they are reminding the public
that they are prohibited from holding mass gatherings during the effectivity of
the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).
“Mass gatherings shall be
prohibited for the duration of the ECQ,” read VALOR 19’s social media post in
answer to questions of the public.

VALOR 19 assured that essential
work-related meetings and religious activities “may continue so long as strict
social distancing and religious activities may continue so long as strict
social distancing, defined as the strict maintenance of a distance of at lease
one meter radius between and among those attending, is maintained during the
entirety of the event.”
“The Department of Trade and
Industry (DTI) shall ensure that private establishments in operation strictly
maintain social distancing in their businesses,” it added.
It was reported last April 1, the Quezon
City Police District (QCPD) arrested 21 persons after residents of Sitio San
Roque went to EDSA and held a rally
demanding help from government.
Those 21 individuals were charged
with the violation the public assembly law, for non-cooperation, for
disobedience of a lawful order, and for spreading fake news.
Joined
Forces
It may be remembered that VP
Robredo joined forces with Free Legal Assistance Group (FLAG) chairman Chel
Diokno in provide legal consultations to the public who may have concerns over
the ongoing enhanced community quarantine.
“We teamed up with
the Office of the VP and volunteer lawyers and law students to mobilize this
resource,” read his social media posts on Thursday (April 9).
“Alam nating
maraming katanungan sa batas ang mga kababayan natin ngayon,” Diokno pointed
out.
