Ceasefire extension with NPA: ‘Wag na silang umasa’ - Spox Roque

The atrocities done by the New People’s Army (NPA) will not be treated with a light hand by the government.

Malacanang would not be extending the nationwide unilateral ceasefire with communist rebels, which took effect last March 17, and it will last up to April 15.

“Tapos na po yung ceasefire. ‘Yan po ay natapos na at hindi pa nare-renew. Sa tingin ko naman, sa patuloy na pag-atake ng NPA (New People’s Army), ‘wag na po silang umasa siguro bagamat ‘yan pa rin ay desisyon ng ating Presidente,” said Presidential Spokesperson Atty. Harry Roque.

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte in one of public address has threatened to declare martial if the atrocities being perpetuated in the different parts of the country by the NPA has not stopped.

Duterte was fuming mad when he learned that the communists have attacked and killed soldiers while they were doing escort activities for the Department of Social Welfare and Development providing relief goods and the cash aid from the Special Amelioration Program (SAP).

“I am now warning everybody, I am putting notice to the armed forces and police. I might declare martial law and there will be no turning back,” the President said in the same public address.
