Abonohan ninyo muna! Sotto tells LGU's use your calamity fund first, for cash aid

Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto has an advice to the problem with respect to the government’s social amelioration program which cannot cover all that is in need of financial help.

He suggested to the Local Government Unit’s to dip into their own pockets first in order to help as many constituents that they can which are affected by the novel coronavirus 2019 diseases as the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has put a limit on who will receive cash assistance.

In an interview over dzMM, Senate President Sotto said LGUs could seek reimbursement from DSWD once the COVID-19 crisis is over.

“Pakiusap naman natin sa local officials, abonohan niyo muna. Tsaka natin singilin ang DSWD. Katulong niyo kami sa paniningil diyan,” he said.
Sotto said the LGU’s can tap their calamity funds to fill the gap in providing the cash aid since Republic Act 11469 or the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act authorized them to use more than 30 percent of their Quick Response Funds for the COVID-19 crisis.

“Buhay ang pinag-uusapan natin dito. Tsaka na ‘yung pera. Yung pera maibabalik ‘yan,” he said.

Several LGU’s have complained that the amount allotted to them are not enough for the beneficiaries for its Social Amelioration Program (SAP).
