“At least 34
government officials, mostly without symptoms or aggravating conditions, have
demanded that the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) of the
Department of Health (DOH) prioritize their diagnostic tests for COVID-19,
including that of their asymptomatic family members, while persons under
investigation (PUIs) displaying real symptoms waited to be tested for the
disease,” the report stated.
The
COVID-19 test results of Bactol, who died on March 21, were delayed for four
days because at least 34 government officials “ordered” theirs to be released
within a day, according to two RITM staffers.
Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Francisco Duque III already cleared the circumstance regarding this issue, according to him admittedly that while the said VIP’s did make direct requests to the RITM, he notes that “some of them had really fit in the criteria for testing.”
“For those ‘VIPs,’ so to speak, who had requested
that they be tested, they actually fit in the initial set of criteria that
would allow them for testing,” the health secretary said.
