President Rodrigo Roa Duterte
during his announcement in MAlacanang Thursday night intimated that he had a
call from Chinese President stating that
they are willing to extend help to the country should the need arises.
This offer was relayed when the
government placed Metro Manila under “community quarantine” to arrest the
spreading of the coronavirus disease in the National Capital Region.
"[Chinese] President Xi
Jinping...said he is willing to help. All we have to do is to ask. Ako ang
tingin ko (In my view), maybe there will be a time, if things deteriorate, that
I have to call on China to help," Duterte said in the briefing in
MalacaƱang.
"To the Chinese government,
to the people, especially to President Xi Jinping, thank you for the consoling
words and maybe, I hope that it would not reach to that point but maybe we will
need your help," he added.

It is in Wuhan, China the
epicenter of the coronavirus disease outbreak, and around two-thirds of the
global cases of the disease have been in China.
The Philippines meanwhile just
placed the capital region under strict travel restrictions to contain the fast-spreading
COVID-19, which has infected at least 52 people in the country, with at least 5
deaths.
