The Philippine Air Force (PAF) continues to modernize as it continue
to acquire both old and new equipment, but this time its different because what
is coming are all brand new aircrafts.
The PAF awaits the delivery of its six brand new A-29 Super
Tucano light attack aircraft and 16 Sikorsky S-70i Black Hawk combat utility
helicopters between this year and 2021.
The much needed combat utility helicopters are said to be
delivered in batches starting the 3rd quarter of 2020 and will be completed in
2021 said Jacob Sifers, the regional business developer of Lockheed Martin
Global Inc.

But according to Sifer, there is a possibility that the
delivery may start in a much earlier date than expected.
The contract for the 16 Sikorsky Blackhawks for the PAF was
signed last year, with a contract price of P12.67 billion ($240 million).
“This will replace our ageing Hueys. It will be used to
transport troops and supplies, Humanitarian assistance and disaster relief
during calamities,” Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenza said to inquirer.net.

These aircrafts were purchased at $98.5 million.
According to previous reports, the Tucano is expected to beef
up the remaining ageing North American Rockwell OV-10 “bronco attack” aircraft
still being used by the PAF in strike missions against the insurgents.
The Super Tucano is described as “turboprop aircraft is
designed for light attack, counter-insurgency, close air support, aerial
reconnaissance missions in low threat environments, as well as providing pilot
training.”
It was designed to be highly operable in high temperature and
humidity conditions in extremely rugged terrain, the "Super Tucano"
is also highly maneuverable, has a low heat signature and incorporates 4th
generation avionics and weapons system to deliver precision-guided munitions.
