MMC slams COVID-19 infected Koko’s hospital visit

The major hospitals in the National Capital Region (NCR) are already sounding the alarm that they have met there full bed capacity that they can no longer accept suspected novel coronavirus 2019 disease (COVID-19) patients or suspected COVID-19 patients.

Plus the fact their own hospital staffs are being quarantined because of the coronavirus they are stretched to their full capacity, so precautions and protocols in stopping the spread of COVID-19 in the hospital premises is now topmost priority.

But all prcautions and preparations are put into disarray when senator Koko Pimentel along with his wife went to Makati Medical Center only to find out while in the hospital premises he is already a confirmed COVID-19 positive patient.

MMC slams Sen. Koko’s irresponsible hospital visit

In an official statement through its medical director and interim co-chief executive Saturnino Javier yesterday, MMC condemned what it described as Pimentel’s “irresponsible and reckless action.”
“By being in MMC, Sen. Pimentel violated his home quarantine protocol, entered the premises of the MMC-DR, thus, unduly exposed health care workers to possible infection,” it said.

Because of the visit more doctors and nurses would have to be in quarantine which would further lessen the already depleted hospital staff which are in the thick of fighting the virus.

“His admonition for everyone to observe social distancing, enhanced community quarantine measures, washing of hands and personal hygiene are nothing but empty rhetoric because he himself violated all those.”
The hospital medical director emphasized that the senator also “created another problem – for (MMC), the very institution which embraced his wife for obstetric care.”
MMC, however assured the public that the delivery room have been fully sanitized, and hopes that none of its staff would be infected.

Koko Pimentel said he was informed at around 9 p.m. on Tuesday through a phone call from the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) that he was positive for the disease following his test taken last Friday.
At the time of the call, the senator was at the MMC to accompany his wife Kathryn, who was expected to give birth.
