Echoing the call of the Vice
President, former Solicitor General Florin Hilbay is also calling out the
Duterte administration to conduct mass testing as soon as possible to curb the
spreading of the novel coronavirus 2019 or COVID-19.
“We want many people tested so
we can better fight, prepare, and manage COVID-19,” read his Twitter
post on Friday (March 27).
“Without testing, we’re all in
the dark,” he lamented.

With testing, former OSG Hilbay pointed out that the country would
have “an idea of the problem and how government is handling it.”
“Without numbers, government can’t be held responsible,” he
stressed.
Same as Leni’s call
Hilbay who is known to be of
the same political affiliation with Vice President Leni Robredo, just
reiterated the previous call of the former last week, urging the government to
conduct mass testing for Filipinos.
No need yet
The Department of Health (DOH) was very
quick to address the call of the Vice President and some sectors of the society
and that there is no need for mass testing yet according to DOH
Undersecretary Rosette Vergeire.
“Sa ngayon po, hindi
pa naman nakikitang kailangan nating gawin itong mass testing na ito,” Vergeire
said in a press conference.
“Pero
nasa taalaan, nasa mapa, nasa radar, na kung sakaling dumating ‘yung panahon,
if we have enough resources, and the government can do it, and it is already
imperative for the government to do it, gagawin po natin ‘yan kung saka
sakali,” she added.
(But
it is already in our plans that if the time comes that we need to conduct one
and if we have enough resources and the government can do it, we will do it.)
