and despite efforts of government for their surrender and for our long deserved
peace.
Suspected members of the New People’s Army (NPA) ablaze four heavy
equipment units owned by a construction firm undertaking a government project
in the province of Zamboanga del Sur.
The incident occurred around 9:30pm of March 9 in Barangay Lower Liasan,
Tambulig town, according to Col. Rhode Espero, Zamboanga del Sur police
director.
Espero said the destroyed heavy equipment consisted of two excavators,
water tanker and payloader.
Investigation showed that the crime happened when workers were already
asleep in their quarters when some 50 communist rebels torched the heavy equipment.
None of the construction workers were hurt during the incident, the
communist rebels immediately fled the place after setting ablaze the heavy
equipment.
Nilo Muñoz, Tambulig Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office
(MDRRMO) chief, said they have yet to determine the worth of properties damaged
during the incident.
Tambulig is a fourth-class municipality which comprises 31 barangays
with a population of 36,160 as of the 2015 national census.
The NPA is listed a terrorist organization by the European Union, United
Kingdom, United States of America, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, New
Zealand, and the Philippines.
