The political allies of the embattled television giant
ABS-CBN is trying to move heaven and earth just to make sure the franchise will
be renewed since March 20, the date of its termination is just around the
corner.
Opposition Congressman Edcel Lagman acknowledges there can
be a “partial remedy” if both houses of Congress can come up with a joint
resolution regarding the ABS-CBN franchise while the 11 bills are pending in
committee level in the House of Representatives.
The joint resolution would urge the National
Telecommunications Commission (NTC) to grant provisional permit to the network.

“We have to first amend the law because under the law, the NTC has no jurisdiction to resurrect an expired franchise. But if you pass a resolution, joint resolution, why not pass the bills granting the renewal of the franchise of ABS-CBN?” Lagman,
Lagman ia one of the 11 authors of a bill urging the House to tackle the bills on the franchise renewal of the media outfit- ABS CBN.
As per Lagman, the suggestion that ABS-CBN can continue
its operation as long as it has a pending application for renewal is “based on
an alleged practice which can be challenged in court because it is not
validated by jurisprudence.”
