“The University of
Santo Tomas wishes to extend its support to ABS-CBN, its media partner. ABS-CBN
has won numerous awards for its entertainment, news, and public service
programs at the USTv Students' Choice Awards. We offer our prayers for the
network to be able to renew its franchise, and we are one with them in their
commitment to continue their service to the Filipino people and the global
community,” it said.
The Faculty and staff
of its Journalism has also made their opinion public and it supports the tv network
for the perceived attack on press freedom.
“The quo warranto
petition against the country’s largest media network is a direct assault on
this sacrosanct freedom,” reads their statement.
ABS-CBN’s franchise
is set to expire on March 30, 2020. Currently there are
11 bills pending in the House of Representatives calling for its renewal.
