Pokwang slams racism towards Chinese nationals amidst nCoV outbreak

Ever since the confirmation of the first case of the  2019- Novel Coronavirus Acute Respiratory Disease (2019-nCoV ARD) in the country I has sprouted another disease which seems to be more lethal than the virus from Wuhan city, Province of Hubei in China.

ABS-CBN talent comedienne Pokwang (real name: Marietta Subong) slams the anti-Chinese sentiments that has been making headway on social media following the confirmation of the 2019-nCoV ARD in the country.

The 2019-nCoV ARD is a cousin of SARS (severe acute respiratory syndrome) that also originated from mainland China.

As indicated by early reports it can be transmitted through coughing, sneezing and close contact with an infected person.

Pokwang, reposted an open letter apologizing to Chinese tourists and citizens in the Philippines for the discrimination they are receiving and experiencing, on her social media platform that is Instagram last January 31.

“MAS PINAGPAPALA ANG NAGPAPAKUMBABA PEACE [EVERYONE] (The humble are more blessed. Peace, everyone),”Pokwang commented.

The letter, issued by “Netizens of the Philippines,” read: “To all Chinese [tourists] or [citizens:] We apologize for the harsh words and the rejection we have made you feel.”

“The Philippines and [its] people are scared not because of you, but because we are a poor country that will suffer if ever it occurs in our land,” it added.

The open letter noted that most Filipinos “do not have money even to afford to eat [three] meals a day.”

“We pray for the healing of everyone in your country [especially] the children and for the benefit of everybody…

 #PrayforWuhanChina #PrayforChinese #PrayforPhilippines,” the letter ended.
