"I’d rather be fat and free than be slim but shackled" - De Lima

Gender equality is something that has been an open debate between the two sexes.

It becomes a political issue when detained opposition senator Leila De Lima makes it as one in attacking her enemies in politics.

De Lima recently stressed his dismay to the recent tweet of Department Foreign Affairs (DFA) Secretary Teddyboy Locsin describing her as “fat.” But Sec. Locsin apologized later which the senator accepted.

Your apology is so kind Sec. Locsin. But I am minded to correct you that there is absolutely nothing wrong with being fat,” De Lima told Locsin in a statement.

“Nevertheless, since you have apologized, I am willing to accept your apology on the condition that you desist from any further misogynistic and insulting statements against me, aside from spreading fake news about my physical appearance,” the opposition said.

President Duterte’s fiercest critic added, “Since your boss’s actions of detaining me has caused me to be conscious of my weight, hence, I shed several pounds, and stay healthy to survive the persecution.”

“I am not thanking him for it. I’d rather be fat and free than be slim but shackled,” the opposition senator said.

“One more thing. You commend me for my feistiness. Yes, I am feisty and fearless because I am innocent,” she said.
