“Huwag kayong maniwala dyan kay Cayetano” - Trillanes

Former senator Antonio Trillanes IV has a thing to his erstwhile colleague and now House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano, as he urges the public not to the latter seriously.

Trillanes was referring to the stand of House Speaker Cayetano that the Senate will violate the Constitution if it will push through with its inquiry on the franchise of ABS-CBN broadcast network.

Known ABS-CBN ally senator Grace Poe , who chairs the Senate Committee on Public Services, decided to start her inquiry on the ABS-CBN franchise renewal despite the bills calling for its renewal are still pending in the House of Representatives.

“Huwag kayong maniwala dyan kay Cayetano.”

“Sa sampung sinabi nyan, labing-isa ang kasinungalingan. [Ayaw niyang mag hearing ang Senado] kasi gusto n’yang in-monopolize ang hearings,” Trillanes said.

In an earlier interview, senator Grace Poe insists that the Senate has the sole body in government that can grant a legislative franchise, despite the Solicitor General’s petition quo warranto before the Supreme Court asking for the termination of Abs-CBN’s franchise.

“I think this is not just an issue of a franchise but this is in a broader stroke, a concern for fair and sound business practice, press freedom, and jobs for all the employees of the television network,” Poe said.
“As the Constitution mandates, the Senate’s jurisdiction over franchises remains despite the existence of the petition,” she added.
“In any case, every franchise undergoes a public hearing and I intend to tackle these issues in a fair and a deliberative manner,” she also said.
