Franchise renewal of ABS-CBN is for Press Freedom - De Lima

Detained senator Leila De Lima is all for the renewal of the legislative franchise of ABS-CBN.
She want the tv giant’s franchise renewed she listed reasons as to why Congress should grant such move.

She made the statement after the senator Grace Poe led Public Services Committee on the alleged compliance issues surrounding the ABS-CBN’s franchise which will expire on May 4, 2020.

A few weeks ago the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) filed a quo warranto petition asking the High Court to terminate the tv network’s franchise for alleged abusive actions/violations of its 25 year old franchise.
De Lima said if the Supreme Court grants such petition, “the constitutional right of the public to access to information might be curtailed as ABS-CBN has a big hand on delivering news and public affairs that benefit the people.”
“Kaakibat din dito ang karapatan sa impormasyon ng publiko na pinoprotektahan din sa ating Konstitusyon,” she said.
