Don’t be afraid of nCoV - Pres. Duterte

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte has addressed the nation to be calm amidst the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) outbreak.

“Let’s start with narratives by saying that everything is well in the country, that there’s nothing really to be extra scared of the coronavirus thing.”

“It has affected a lot of countries, but you know in one or two [cases] in any country is not really that fearsome,” he added.

Duterte pointed out that the person who got infected is a foreigner and not a Filipino. The President also said there is no need to be “hysterical” of the public following the news of confirmed coronavirus case in the country.

“The response of the people from the initial reports of coronavirus was also hysterical when there was really no need for it actually. If there is really a virus going around, why do you have to be hysterical?” Duterte said

The Department of Health (DOH) has earlier reported there are 80 patients under investigation for the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV).

Duterte also said in the event of a need for a quarantine area, he is keen of using the government facility in Fort Magsaysay.

“That building is not used. Problem is, the governor doesn’t like it [to be used for quarantine]…( Nueva Ecija Gov. Aurelio Umali) That building is inside a national government reservation. It’s spacious,” Duterte said. “In times of emergency I can always… It is always confiscatory in nature. You confiscate. Then you make it a hospital.”
