There is no movement with respect to the renewal of the legislative
franchise of ABS-CBN.
The bill or bills concerning its renewal of franchise is not one of
those included in the agenda of the upcoming hearing of the House committee on
legislative franchises amid earlier assurance from the House leadership.
News report from Politiko/Abante disclosed that not a single bill seeking to grant a fresh 25-year
franchise to the Bas-CBN Kapamilya network is in the agenda of the legislative
franchise panel chaired Palawan Rep. Franz “Chicoy” Alvarez.

Last month House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano hinted that the renewal of
the TV network might be one of those bills that will be discussed by the Lower
House this February, as the committee chaired by Alvarez is set to hear about
40 franchise renewal bills, all pending before his committee.
Among the franchise bills that are set to be tackled by Alvarez are those of the FBS Radio Network, Century Communications
Marketing Center, Caceres Broadcasting Corporation, and Philand Communications
Network Corporation.
Cayetano earlier gave an assurance
that the Lower House “will have fair hearings that we will hear issues and also
hear the replies.”
“We cannot promise you any decision
until we finish the hearings to be fair with everyone,” said Cayetano.
