“Part of filling the gap is we will increase our bilateral exercises, agreement with other countries not only United Sates, the only SOVFA (Status of Visiting Forces Agreement) we have is Australia, so with the help of the Congress and the Senate we will push for the approval of (agreements with) the other countries like South Korea, Japan, Indonesia and other allied countries,” AFP Chief-of-Staff General Felimon Santos Jr. said during his confirmation hearing at the Commission on Appointments (CA).
It was also in the same confirmation hearing that Chief Of
Staff Santos said, “And we will live without VFA.” He even noted that during the time there was no VFA from 1991
to 1997 the country was able to survive thorough those years.
And that when asked if he believes what President Duterte did
was the right thing to do, he said “It’s a political decision. We’ll support
him,”the Chief os Staff said.
