Another
celebrity has called on President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to allow the renewal of
the legislative franchise of ABS-CBN Channel 2.
Actress
Liza Soberano made a public appeal to President Duterte to have a change of
heart on his stance on the franchise renewal of her gome network ABS-CBN, she
took note of the numerous employees who will be directly affected if its broadcast
operations are forced to close by March.
Soberano
with his real-life partner Enrique Gil will lead the new upcoming ABS-CBN rom-com
series “Make it with You”, which will join the primetime line up staring this
January 13.

During
the press conference of the series, the two lead cast were asked for their
reaction to the upcoming expiration of ABS-CBN’s franchise this coming March,
the series is would still like be airing by March 30, 2020.
“He is
understanding, I believe,” Soberano said. “Alam niya namang maraming
maaapektuhan… It’s not just the company itself, but all the employees. I’m sure
he has a generous heart and an understanding heart.”
“I hope he wakes up
one morning and he thinks about it again, and maging bukas ‘yung puso niya sa
lahat ng smaller employees na nangangailangan ng trabaho,” she said.
The
President has said in many of his public speeches that he will not renew the
franchise of the TV giant, even at one point suggesting to the owners of
ABS-CBN to just sell it.
Under
Republic Act No. 3846, requires radio and television broadcast companies to
obtain a franchise from Congress. Once approved by both houses, a bill granting
franchise renewal goes to the Office of the President for his signature.
