Former Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario is making the rounds again in the news feed when he made the
hypothesis that President Rodrigo Roa Duterte by making the statement that he
is terminating the Visiting Forces
Agreement (VFA) with the United States of America (USA), would be now pivoting
to China.
Del Rosario also says that this move will directly affect the
implementation of the 1951 Mutual Defense Treaty between the country and the United
States of America (USA).
"Without the VFA, making the MDT work would be more
challenging, especially since we now have specific external threats as well as
more devastating natural calamities," he said.

"Terminating
the VFA would serve to actualize our pivot towards China against the strong and
vehement objections of our people," he adds.
Should accept Trump’s invitation
The former DFA secretary has this unsolicited advice for the
PChief Executive and that is for the latter to accpt US President Donald Trump’s
invitation to attend the Southeast Asian leaders’ summit in Las Vegas, Nevada
on March 4.
"Should our President wish to improve the MDT and the
VFA, he may wish to accept the invitation to meet President Trump. This would
present an excellent opportunity for our President to place on the table his
full expectations pertaining to our bilateral relations," he explained.
