Duterte's drug war a failure, Robredo : Kung exam ‘to, 1/100 tayo!

Vice President Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo has graded the ongoing illegal drug policy of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, and the grade she gave the latter is 1/100.

The Vice President claims as per the documents she reviewed that the government only seized one percent of the shabu which entered the country over the past three years.

In the press conference specifically called for by Robredo she shared to the public her key findings from 18-day stint as the drug czar of the country and co-chairperson of the Inter-Agency Committee on Anti-Illegal Drugs (ICAD).

As per the 40 page report, Robredo said an estimated P1.3 trillion of shabu is circulated around the country yearly.
However, government data also showed that authorities only seized 1,053 kilos of shabu in 2017 and 785 kilos of shabu in 2018, translating to one percent of the illegal drugs supply in the country.
The Anti-Money Laundering Council, meanwhile, only froze some P1.4 billion in assets linked to the illegal drug trade between 2017 and 2018.

Failed strategy

From the culled records, the Vice President said there is a need to change strategy and that “Tokhang” is clearly not the solution to stop the illegal drug trade.

Robredo also took note of the different or inconsistent data recording/ gathering among the different agencies involved in the drug war, like for example in the number of illegal drug users and pushers.
