In the time where
the different countries are trying to be free from the 2019- novel coronavirus,
the countries preparations seems to be wanting.
Former independent
director of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PHIC),Dr. Anthony
Leachon lashed at the Duterte administration for being slow in
containing the threat of the 2019 novel coronavirus or 2019-nCoV.
According to him the
temporary ban should not be limited to only those from China’s Hubei province
but in the entire mainland China until the situation normalizes.

“Well, I would say so. Mabagal din ang World Health Organization (WHO is also slow). Paumanhin po pero epidemic po ang pinag-uusapan dito (I am sorry but we are talking about an epidemic here)” he said in an interview with Radyo Inquirer
“I think politics should not stand in the way of science and medicine. It was a clear-cut case. We have to isolate ourselves from the epidemic,” he added. “Dapat we take the road na medyo courageous ang leadership natin (of making our leadership more courageous) in the interest of public safety.”
Dr. Leachon explains
that there will be more “chilling effects” to the country’s economy if an
epidemic happens here, after health officials earlier confirmed the Philippines
first case of the 2019-nCoV.
He warns that “one
positive case can lead to an epidemic,” noting that the country also has a weak
healthcare system to contain the virus.
He suggest that the
travel ban be reviewed for a more larger scope, he said it maight be possible
that Chinese nationals who traveled from Hubei may not be exiting from that
province but from other parts of China.
(It’s just like
exiting Manila but the place where you really came from was Pasay or Quezon
City. You will have a problem if that is your strategy.)
Extending the travel ban will likewise “simplify the problem,” said Leachon
