Ban travelers from countries with coronavirus cases if outbreak worsens - SP Sotto



Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Francisco Duque III just confirmed a 38 -year old Chinese woman, who arrived in the country through a flight from Hong Kong last week, tested positive for novel coronavirus, which first broke out in the capital city of Wuhan in Hubei province.
Should the virus outbreak worsens, the country should ban all travelers coming in from countries with confirmed cases of the virus, this according to senator Vicente Sotto III.


“I concur (with the ban), in fact the travel ban should be for all…lahat ng (all) nationalities coming from that area in China,” Sotto told reporters in a message to reporters on Friday.

“If it gets worse, ban na all coming from countries with (2019-nCoV),” he added.
Sotto added that “we must leave it all” to the country’s health officials, noting that “they are in a better position to assess matters rather than us armchair critics.”

Malacanang just ordered imposition of a temporary ban on Chinese nationals from Hubei province where Wuhan city – the epicenter of the novel coronavirus outbreak, this was declared after DOH recommended such ban which includes “other places in China where there is a spread of the disease.”



“Upon the recommendation of DOH Secretary Francisco Duque , the President has issued a travel ban to Chinese nationals coming from the Hubei province of China where the nCoV originated, as well in other places in China where there is a spread of the disease. It will last until the threat is over given that that the safety of our countrymen is foremost in the President’s mind,” said Panelo.
