The country is currently hosting the 30th edition
of the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.
Days prior to the formal opening there were some hiccups that
was experienced by the organizing committee and had to be addressed
immediately.
The formal opening of the biennial regional games in
Philippine Arena in Bocaue , Bulacan erased all doubts as to the capacity of
the country in hosting this sports regional meet.

A direct commendation by honorary life vice-president of the
Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) Wei Jizhong, that the country could bid for the 2030 Asian Games, another
unexpected accolade is given to the country.
"Government plays a leading role, social responsibility
is shared, and [there is a] large participation of the people . . . You did
very well," Wei said.
“The Philippine Arena is perhaps a unique arena
in the world. We witnessed the enthusiasm of all athletes, and showed the
excellent tradition of the SEA Games so far,” he said further, before adding:
“This means that the Philippines is capable to
organize bigger-scale Games.”
And recently the country thru the Philippine Southeast Asia Games Organizing Committee
(PHISGOC) was awarded the Best SEA Games organizer by the Sports
Industry Awards (SPIA) Asia.
As of press time, the country has already
surpassed its gold medal haul of the last edition and is very much gunning the
overall championship again, a repeat of the 2005 feat by the country its first
overall championship.
The Duterte administration’s political will made
all of these things happen, but what is it in this administration that national
athletes are raving about
Veteran journalist Jay Sonza made a post in social media
explaining why our national athletes are happy under the Duterte
administration.
In his Facebook post, Sonza saidduring the past
administrations, the athletes who have brought honor for the country have been
treated badly.
Sonza, posted the picture of Boxing gold medalist Nesthy
Petecio hugging Duterte during their meeting at Malacanang Palace, a clear
testament of the love of athletes to the President Duterte.
Petecio, together with gymnast Carlos Yulo and Ernest Obiena
received P1-M cash from the government while silver medalists who also visited
Malacanang received P500,000.
Sonza also said that a former boxing champion Sonny Boy Jaro was only served juice and bread when he presented his
championship during a visit in Malacanang Palace.
“Pumunta kami doon (sa Malacanang) , nganga…
kasama pa doon si (Donnie) Nietes tapos si (Johnriel) Casimiro… pumunta kami
doon pinag juice lang kami,” Jaro said.
“Kami ayos lang kasi taga Rizal lang kami,
malapit lang sa Malacanang, eh si Nietes at Casimiro namasahe pa ng eroplano
papuntang Malacanang,” he added.
For purposes of clarity and full public
disclosure we have quoted in full the Facebook post of Mr. Jay Sonza below:
“Sir. Mister President. Pa flex lang po dahil sa
sobrang tuwa po ng atletang Pinoy ngayon.
Dati-rati po, kapag napunta kami sa Palacio
pinaiinom po kami ng juice, piktyur-pikyur, tapos may pramis na cash incentive
pero wala naman. tumanda na lang si onyok velasco na Olympic silver medalist,
panis pa rin.
Ngayon sir, may pakain pang ginisang Munggo, may
patseke na, may paCash PA. may increase training allowances PA.
PaHug naman po sir.
