President Rodrigo Roa Duterte has been on a warpath
as against the two giant water concessionaires - Manila Water Co. Inc. (for the
east zone) operated by the Ayala group, and Maynilad Water Services Inc. (for
the west zone) of the Pangilinan group’s Metro Pacific.
As of press time the two water firms has waived its
right to collect from government the amount of P10.8B (Maynilad ₱3.4
billion and Manila Water ₱7.4
billion).

Salvador Panelo has advised Vice President
Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo to no longer make any comment on the issue
concerning the water concession agreements.

“Siguro ang advice natin kay VP leni, huwag mo nang
pasukin ang hindi mo alam,” Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo told mediamen.
Panelo
said VP Robredo does not know anything about the matter.
“The
President has made a stand and the stand appears to be very effective. She
should know that,” he added.
In her weekly radio program, the Vice President has
advised the government to adopt a “calmer” approach on the alleged
disadvantageous agreements entered into by the two water concessionaires
against the government.
“Kapag hindi natin dinaan sa mas mahinahon na
usapin, ang dami nitong collateral damage,” Robredo said.
