The Philippines will soon have its own medium-range
ramjet supersonic cruise missiles for its coastal defense requirements.
It will be the country’s first weaponry that will
have deterrent capability.
Department of National Defense(DND) Secretary Delfin
Lorenzana said that the contract signing for the BrahMos cruise missiles for
the Philippine Army (PA) , will be signed 1st or 2nd quarter of next year.
"Signing of the contract will be in 2020.
Possibly on the first or second quarter," Lorenzana said.

The said procurement will be via “government to
government mode,”
Asked how many BrahMos Cruise missiles will the
country be acquiring from India, Sec Lorenzana said “two batteries.”
'
A missile battery is equivalent to three mobile
autonomous launchers with two or three missile tubes each.
The DND Chief explains aside from the Philippine
Army, said missiles can also be used by the Philippine Air Force (PAF).
"There
is money for it as per our modernization program," Lorenzana said, when asked where will the country gets
it fund for the missiles.
The procurement of the land based missile system is
part of the Armed Forces of the Philippines modernization program Horizon 2,
all acquisition of equipment are geared for external defense and has a budget
of P300 Billion.
