It was indeed a destiny fulfilled.
In a basketball crazy country, not winning the Southeast Asian
Games gold medal would be a mortal sin. The SEA Games has been for the longest
time philippines’ private playground.
In this 30th edition of the Games, the first staging of
Basketball 3x3 would be held, and as
expected the country made a golden double.

the final score was 17-13.
“I’m just so happy for the girls, especially for women’s basketball. This is our first time to compete in 3×3 and we won our gold. History again,” national team coach Pat Aquino said.
“I hope that with this win, with this gold medal, all the hard work of the girls will be recognized,” Aquino, who also coaches the women’s 5-on-5 squad,” added. “We’re so proud of them. All their hard work, all their sacrifices. They really love basketball. This is for the country.”Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas president Al Panlilio was just as ecstatic over the women’s victory, noting that the country had never gotten a gold in the sport before.

Gilas Pilipinas Men’s team
The PBA backed team composed of CJ Perez, Jason Perkins, Chris Newsome and Mo Tautuaa was unbeaten in the whole tournament.
In their way in getting the gold medal, they
clinically demolished the Indonesian team, when the bell sounded and the dust
cleared the final score was 21-9.
Stronger, bigger, and much more skilled the men’s
team never gave the opposition a chance, they were all sheredded with such
superb paly and show of skills.
The golden double in basketball 3x3 sets up the
stage for the Tim Cone mentored star-filled Gilas Pilipinas which is also expected to blow away all opposition en route to their
claiming the gold.
