The thrust of the current government in
upgrading and modernizing the Philippine Armed Forces remains a commitment of
president Rodrigo Roa. Duterte.
During the 80th anniversary of the
Department of National Defense (DND) at Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City,
President Duterte vows the full implementation of the Armed Forces of the
Philippines (AFP) modernization programs that has the intention to improve the
country’s defense capabilities.
He further vows to work hand in hand
with Congress in passing vital bills related to the AFP’s upgrade.

“Throughout our nation’s history, the
Department of National Defense has been an important contributor in national
development through the effective formulation and implementation of policies
and the efficient management of resources to ensure our safety and protect our
territorial integrity and sovereignty,” Duterte said.
“I assure you of my administration’s
full implementation of the modernization programs by working with Congress
towards the enactment of legislative measures that will further enhance the
department’s capabilities,” he added.
Duterte also acknowledges and thanks
the men and women of the Department of National Defense (DND) in keeping the
country safe. He said that the Filipino nation is grateful for their service
not only in matters of security but also on humanitarian aid and disaster response.
“I extend my sincerest thanks to you,
the brave men and women of the DND, for successfully carrying out the sacred
mandate to defend our country against external and internal threats and ensure
peace and security,” he said.
“The Filipino nation will always
remember you in their hearts for pursuing this noble task that puts you at the
forefront of combating elements that threaten our freedom and democratic way of
life,” he adds.
