Along with the desire of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to have everything in order for a progressive and developed Philippines of tomorrow, is the relentless pursuit of peace and order in all the New People’s Army (NPA) infested provinces.
Leyte has been known as one of the provinces heavily infested with the communist rebels, and as reported in the government run media outlet- Philippine News Agency, the Philippine Army has recovered last week a high-powered firearm and a home-made bomb when they overran a lair of the New People's Army (NPA) in Mahaplag, Leyte.

The government has been pursuing these lawless elements as part of its intensified combat operation against the communist rebels.
