As early as now, the dye has been cast – Maria Leonor “Leni” robredo is open in running for the position of President in the national elections of 2022.
“If you ask me now, I have no plans, but I am
leaving everything open. We still have three years before the next presidential
elections. A lot can still happen,” Robredo said in an interview with Bloomberg
TV.
If the need arise, the Vice president said she is
ready.

“When I ran for the vice presidency, that was one
of the prerequisites—that I’m ready to be President. Because the mandate of the
Philippine Vice President is to take over if anything happens to the President.
So I would not have ran for the vice presidency if I thought that I was not
ready for the presidency,” Robredo said.
The Vice President clarified that she has not
decided yet whether she would stand as the Liberal party’s standard bearer in
the national elections in 2022.
In the earlier
part of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s term, he was quoted saying that he does
not want Robredo to become his successor as he described her as “not capable of
running a country.”
“I don’t think she can ever be ready to
govern a country. Reason? Incompetence,” Pres. Duterte said.
